We are working on a site rebuild to offer detailed medical information and advice on a range of health issues and chronic illnesses. Until then, you may want to check out "Information on Autism", a site offering advice on Autism and aspergers syndrome.

Alternatively, if you are diabetic, here is some breaking news on a cure for diabetes, which holds out hope that diabetics may soon have no need of insulin or diabetic medication.

RECEPTION OFFICE TIMES

The surgery is open between the hours of 8.00am and 6.30pm (Monday - Friday) with the exception of 11.45am to 1.00pm for lunch break and Thursday afternoon; we are also closed Friday 11.45am to 3.00pm.

Out of hours cover is by GP Co-operative (BADGER). The surgeries are run by appointments only, with extra appointments to allow patients to be seen as emergency cases at the current surgery by a doctor. Initially, emergencies may be seen by the practice nurse.

PRACTICE HISTORY

Fernley Medical Centre was built in 1894 as a single doctor's residence with surgery facilities. With the introduction of the NHS in 1948 the practice became a two-handed practice. This situation remained until one year ago when in response to patient demands we added a third lady partner. During the last ten years the premises have been extensively renovated, extended and updated in order to bring a Victorian surgery up to the requirements of the present day. The staff quota now consists of a practice manager, two practice nurses, a health visitor and a variety of non-clinical staff. The surgery has been fully adapted for disabled patients. An appointment system is in use and we use the latest technology within the practice.
